Cushman & Wakefield has named Grady Matthews Managing Principal for its Raleigh-Durham office. Matthews, a former executive and partner in two of North Carolina’s top real estate companies since 2000, will now oversee strategic growth and business development efforts for the firm’s business in the Raleigh-Durham market. Rich Harris, who did a masterful job leading the Raleigh-Durham office the past five years, will remain with Cushman & Wakefield and focus solely on his tenant representation practice.
“Grady is a very impressive leader with a diverse background in commercial real estate brokerage, development, finance and construction,” said John F. O’Neill, III, President of Cushman & Wakefield’s Southeast and South Central regions. “His extensive expertise creates an opportunity to enhance our service lines and client experience. In addition, Grady’s desire to uphold the culture that has made our firm a ‘Best Place to Work’ four years in a row makes him a perfect fit. He is a fantastic addition and will be an excellent leader as we continue to grow our presence in the Raleigh-Durham market.”
Matthews will have direct oversight of more than 80 employees in the Triangle, Triad and Tidewater area, and all aspects of the firm’s business including agency leasing, tenant representation, capital markets, property management, project and development services and global occupier services.
“In the last five years we have doubled in size and tripled in revenue, and Grady’s reputation, experience and fresh perspective make him the perfect leader to continue this growth,” Harris said. “He has a consistent record of building and managing diverse teams in order to provide strategic solutions to maximize the return on investments for clients.”
Matthews has more than 20 years of commercial real estate experience and has produced profits for commercial partners in asset management and real estate development, with an emphasis on land sales, development and investment transactions as well as extensive entitlement work.
“Cushman & Wakefield has experienced tremendous success during the past several years with Rich Harris at the helm, and I look forward to working with this great team to continue to provide top-line service to our clients,” Matthews said.
Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield, Matthews was Vice President of Choate Construction, where he was also an officer within the company. Previously, he held the Vice President position at First Citizens Bank, where he was the No. 1 producer in the Government Guaranteed Lending division, and VantageSouth Bank, where he was the No. 1 producer in the Government Guaranteed Lending Group in 2013.
Additionally, Matthews was Principal of Granite Development, providing oversight over the company’s dealings in Eastern North Carolina, including new development, leasing, management, entitlements and operations.
